Internet Economy and Intellectual Property Protection, the third sub-forum for the 15th Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum & Global IP Protection and Innovation Development Conference and a supporting event of the first China International Import Expo, was convened at Jin Jiang Hotel, Shanghai on November 7, 2018. Organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) and undertaken by the Intellectual Property Association of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, this sub-forum was attended by nearly 300 experts, scholars, and elites from Internet economy and IP industries. Mr. Kevin Sun, president of Shanghai Sinofaith IP Group and Vice Chairman of the Intellectual Property Association of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, was invited to attend the event. He shared his forward-looking insights as the first speaker at the discussion session.

Moderated by Mr. Chen Naiwei, chairman of the Intellectual Property Association of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, executive vice chairman of the China Law Association on Science and Technology, and mediator of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center and JAMS, the sub-forum was first addressed by Mr. Ji Xiaoye, deputy director of SIPA, followed by some keynote speeches given by Mr. Jayson Pankin, co-founder, president and CEO of AutoHarvest Foundation, Ms. Jessie Zheng, chief risk officer and chief platform governance officer of Alibaba Group and deputy director of the Standardization Working Committee of the Internet Society of China, Ms. Du Qian, president of Hangzhou Internet Court, and Shou Bu, director of the Information Technology and High and New Technology Committee of the All China Lawyers Association and director of IP Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
Mr. You Minjian, vice chairman of the Intellectual Property Association of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, director of Shanghai Intellectual Property Academy, and mediator of WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, acted as the moderator for the session on ‘new development of IP protection in Internet economy’. This topic was discussed by Mr. Kevin Sun, president of Sinofaith and vice chairman of the Intellectual Property Association of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Mr. Mitchell Harris, founder of Social Labs, Mr. Jiang Weihua, vice president of Internal Controls and Compliance Department of JD Group Inc. and chairman of board of directors of the Trust and Integrity Enterprise Alliance, Ms. Xie Fei, CEO of Shengqu Games (formerly known as Shanda Games), and Mr. Xu Jiali, director of Beijing Longan Law Firm and director of IP Research Center of University of Science and Technology Beijing.
As the first speaker, Sinofaith CEO Kevin Sun talked about the value realization of 'protected or shared' intellectual properties and Sinofaith's innovative practices in protecting holders of small and micro copyrights. According to Kevin, operated by a professional team, the Knight of IP Defense incubated by Sinofaith is an original eco-service platform that integrates copyright protection, whole network data supervision, multi-channel traffic aggregation, efficient content distribution, authorization and management of posted articles, and intelligent big data mining. Kevin proposed to provide content creators with online copyright confirmation and make possible small-amount charge on content re-post or sharing and online payment, adding that this business model could become a new trend for holders of small copyrights to realize their IP value.
This sub-forum has facilitated international exchange and cooperation on IP protection in the Internet economy, raised the global awareness of IP protection and diversified solutions to IP-related disputes, and propelled the innovative development of IP protection and the construction of a first-class business environment.
