The Secret Battle behind "The Mermaid" 1.6 Billion Yuan Box Office

时间: 2016-02-15

The box offices of 2016 Lunar New Year's celebration films were very high, and three films' box office figures have continuously increased. In the seven days since "The Mermaid" reached the screen, its box office has reached 1.6 billion yuan. Two other domestic 3D films, "The Monkey King 2" and "From Vegas to Macau III" also had box office revenues of 700 million yuan, respectively.

"The Mermaid" has set many records to count. On the first day of Lunar New Year, "The Mermaid" earned 280 million yuan at the box office, successfully breaking the record of "Lost in Hong Kong" and becoming the highest-grossing film in a single day. After that, nationwide audiences paid for Stephen Chow's latest film: 400 million yuan in 36 hours of release, 600 million yuan in 48 hours of release, and 1 billion yuan in 92 hours of release. Each record was set at the highest speed.

Meanwhile, driven by the interest, pirates also started illegal downloading and secretly played tricks: stealing box office hits, cloud storage, wechat, microblog, and small sites. They used various methods to obtain benefits from "the Lunar New Year's celebration films". The battle to defend the box office secretly started.

Via the IPRM video surveillance system provided by Dongyang Sinofaith Video IP Co., LTD, the China Film Copyright Association of Television Monitoring and Management Center combined all the production companies and jointly monitored to discover that:

1. Since February 4, 2016, a certain cinema in Shangdong illegally showed "The Mermaid", "The Monkey King 2", and "From Vegas to Macau III" three days in advance, thus seriously infringing upon the production companies' lawful rights and interests;

2. Until 12 am on 10 February 2016, it was monitored that 57 cinemas were suspected not to report the actual box offices of "The Mermaid", "The Monkey King 2", and "From Vegas to Macau III";

3. Until 12:00 am on February 10, 2016, the monitoring center monitored the following network infringements about "The Mermaid", "The Monkey King 2", and "From Vegas to Macau III":

("The Mermaid" was uploaded at 6:31 am on February 8, 2016; "From Vegas to Macau III" was uploaded at 6:25 am on February 8, 2016; and "The Monkey King 2" was uploaded at 6:21 am on February 8, 2016). In addition, the IPRM monitoring system found that the infringement links of "The Monkey King 2" jumped to other websites that were also found on the American website, Youtube.

Survey data shows that the piracy loss rate of domestic films has been as much as 55% in recent years. In the increasingly fierce Chinese film market, rampant piracy threatens the whole film market. "The Mermaid", "The Monkey King 2", and "From Vegas to Macau III" are not the first ones, and they are not the last, either. However, creators are not alone in the battle for defending film copyrights. Dongyang Sinofaith Video IP Co., LTD and the creators fight together and protect original works in China. Respect the production company and the creator, and respect the law. Do not break the law.
